Shortlisted for Prize for Illustration 2019

London Stories

I have been lucky enough to be shortlisted for the AOI & Transport for London's annual Poster Prize for Illustration 2019. This is the second time that I've been shortlisted for this award and I am super excited. The theme this year was London Stories and I decided to focus on getting the number 35 bus from Elephant & Castle to Camberwell Road. I take this bus quite regularly when I'm in the capital and I love just sitting and watching the world go by. Taking the bus in London gives you a window into so many different personal stories. Everyone in this illustration has a little back story - can you guess what is going through their minds?

Getting nominated for this award led to the London Transport Museum inviting me to run a weeks worth of workshops over the 2019 Easter Holidays. You can read about them over on my blog

London Transport Museum had this to say about the work that I'd done:

Elly has been brilliant to work with from the get go! It’s rare to find someone who is equally as creative as they are organised, but Elly managed a perfect balance between being inventive and fun with her family-friendly illustration ideas, and being prepared and so very helpful with pulling everything together for delivery. When we initially spoke about the activity ideas that I had envisioned, she understood straight away what I was aiming for, brought so much inspiration and ‘illustration magic’ to them, and really thoughtfully incorporated our learning outcomes and Collection themes in the final activity delivery. I am so thrilled to have had Elly join us over the Easter holidays and am very pleased that our visiting families were able to meet her as she was warm and very approachable in her delivery style. Her illustration alone ’35 Bus to Albany Road’ was such a relevant and aesthetically captivating piece for our families to discover, but having Elly there herself, to explore the different characters and to share her own practice and inspiration as an illustrator, really took our activities to a whole other level of success. Thank you Elly!
